This year, the municipality of Carabayllo has launched the initiative to recognize women from Carabayllo, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The first award to women of Carabayllo, is due to the fact that March 8 commemorates the role of women in the search for equality, and the struggle for rights; therefore, the municipality of Carabayllo seeks to publicly recognize the women of Carabayllo, committed personally and effectively, for the defense of rights and promotion of equality in the various dimensions of development, political, social, cultural, business, scientific and environmental. Socios En Salud, as a non-profit social organization, presents four candidates for the distinction in merit of their personal trajectory and contribution to the development of the community.
Hilda Valdivia Torreblanca
She began her work as a catechist in the parish Cristo Luz del Mundo (Christ Light of the World). In the nineties, she participated in the marches for lack of water and sewage. She has worked as a nursing technician at C.S. La Flor and later joined the ranks of social intervention and development of Socios En Salud Sucursal Perú; in addition, she has participated in different areas of consultation, working in dialogue and community proposals to promote the development of the community and especially the women of Carabayllo. Currently, she is a key player in the “Stop Tuberculosis” project, which aims to eliminate tuberculosis in three districts of northern Lima: Carabayllo, Comas and Independencia.
Modesta Bellido Huillca
From the beginning, Modesta was part of the board of directors of the Glass of Milk program and soup kitchen in the Raul Porras area of Carabayllo, and also worked in the district’s municipality for many years. She is currently a volunteer community health agent at the Raul Porras Barrenechea health center, and provides social accompaniment in the area of gestation, tuberculosis program, health campaigns and vaccinations.
Ofelia Calderon Puente
Ofelia, began serving her community as a community health agent in 1985. She has worked for more than 30 years for her community and has been trained by the Ministry of Health, the municipality and various health institutions. Currently, she is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the elderly, and has founded the Club de Adultos Mayores, which has 46 members.
Vilma Lozada Cerrillo
At the age of 32, Vilma began her work as a community agent in the area of La Flor. Always with the commitment to improve her community, she has been training in the area of health, providing substantial contributions to the La Flor health center. All the knowledge and experience she has gained has helped her to grow as a person, mother and neighbor of Carabayllo. Currently, as a community agent, she leads a health center in El Polvorín, doing community work in health accompaniment to families who require her support.
