“Breast cancer is often a silent enemy. Therefore, prevention is essential to detect it in time.”
Unfortunately the culture of health prevention is not practiced and this brings many consequences, because only go for a checkup when there is already a discomfort or the problem is already in advanced stage, so it is important to understand that prevention and timely checkups can save many lives.
We should not add to the death statistics, when you can prevent this type of cancer. It is in our decision to stop breast cancer in time, let’s get our mammogram on time, mentions Giuliana Hernandez Llicahua, obstetrician, coordinator of the ALMA project of Socios En Salud.
Partners In Health launches ALMA chatbot to engage women aged 50 to 69 or over 40 with any discomfort or signs or symptoms of breast injury, working closely with community health agents; who are our attachment to the community.
Once the chat bot procedure is done, we connect with the participants to perform a screening and depending on their current health status in the first instance, an appointment is coordinated with the nearest EE.SS, and from the results the referral is made to perform the mammography.
This initiative was born to provide tools to help break down the stigma and ignorance of breast cancer. Timely treatment and disseminating the importance of having a breast cancer screening is important.
7 out of 10 women are unaware of the importance of having a mammogram. Adding to this statistic is fear and ignorance as key factors for many people to stop getting a checkup. Currently through the ALMA project, and the work of our community agents, we have reached more than 200 women, who have understood the importance of early screening.
