From September 6 to 9, Socios En Salud (SES) had an outstanding participation in the XVIII Peruvian Congress on Infectious and Tropical Diseases, which was organized by the Peruvian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (SPEIT) and brought together groups of experts in infectious diseases, as well as health professionals in general.
It addressed a variety of essential topics in the field of infectious and tropical diseases, such as tuberculosis (TB) and atypical mycobacteria, HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, COVID-19, respiratory viral diseases, among others.
In this regard, from Socios En Salud we were able to make visible our work in the fight against TB and HIV through our specific programs, as well as our services from the Clinical Trials Unit (UNEC), the Clinical Research Laboratory, the Infection Control Unit (UCIN), among others.
Our Medical Center also had an outstanding participation by presenting information on the processes of the laboratory specialized in TB, non-TB mycobacteria and HIV, as well as the clinical trials that it also executes as a research site.
Also, our Medical Center won first place in the Clinical Research category for an informative material that addressed our experience in the use of Rifapentine as Preventive Tuberculosis Treatment (PTT) in patients using Dolutegravir.
The SES stand made available to all attendees information about our main programs, services and achievements in these 27 years of institutional life.
This study conclusively demonstrated that the efficacy of antiretroviral therapy is not affected, despite theoretical concerns about the interaction between Dolutegravir and a Rifamycin (e.g., Rifampicin), in patients with TB/HIV coinfection.

These results support and strengthen the safe implementation of shortened TB preventive treatment (TBPT) with Rifapentine in people living with HIV, representing a significant advance in the management of this dual infection.
Finally, this event also allowed us to exchange experiences and knowledge through conferences by more than 30 speakers from various countries, such as Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, United States, England, and Peru, where Dr. Alberto Mendoza, an infectious disease physician from SES, led the conference entitled National guide vs. world standards in the management of tuberculosis.
Thus, this Congress was a valuable space for updating and learning in the field of infectious and tropical diseases, through which we reaffirmed our continued commitment to excellence in medical care and research.
