More than 112 health facilities, hospitals, soup kitchens and regional workshops in various regions of the country will benefit from the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) as a donation.

This intervention is part of the Covid- 19 Response project, which, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Partherns In Health and Partners In Healthseeks to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection in Peru’s most vulnerable populations.

The plan consists of implementing the donation of 2,536 boxes of gloves, suits, indirect ventilation goggles, face shields, caps, disposable aprons, among others; due to the alarming need for personal protective equipment to those on the front line.

This initiative aims to protect and ensure the biosecurity of all health personnel belonging to health centers located in Lima Metropolitana, Ate, El Agustino, Santa Anita, Carabayllo, Comas, Independencia, Rimac, San Martin de Porres and Villa Maria del Triunfo; also, the Community Mental Health Center La Esperanza and Frida Alayza in the province of Trujillo, due to the accelerated increase of coronavirus cases recorded in the region. Similarly, these donations are expected to be delivered to soup kitchens and the Taller de Mujeres Unidas.

”We have been working hard with the entire team of Socios En Salud in the coordination, evaluation and validation of this donation. Now, during these 7 days, we hope to distribute the greatest amount of (PPE) in favor of the populations that need it most,” stated Dalicxa Garcia, head of the Pharmacy Unit of Socios En Salud.

IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted, once again, the importance of using PPE to prevent and decrease the risk of transmission of infections. It also recommended the rational use of these resources, due to the limitations in their production and distribution worldwide.

”The appropriate use of respiratory protective equipment is an important part of the infection control measures that must be taken into account to significantly reduce the risk of acquiring a respiratory infection such as Covid-19,” said Marco Tovar, medical director of Socios En Salud.
