A career in the service of health and dignity
A surgeon by profession, Dr. Leonid Lecca has dedicated his life to reducing gaps in access to health care in Peru. From his early years in primary care in Carabayllo to his current leadership at Socios En Salud, his work has been guided by the conviction that human dignity must be at the center of every healthcare intervention.
Under his leadership, Socios En Salud has driven innovative projects in tuberculosis, HIV, mental health, chronic diseases, and maternal, child and adolescent health programs, always with a focus on social justice and community accompaniment.
Dr. Lecca has also been an influential voice in the formulation of public health policies, promoting collaboration between the state, academia and communities. His stewardship has contributed to Peru’s international recognition for its advances in the treatment of resistant tuberculosis.
His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the importance of working alongside communities, implementing rapid response strategies and decentralized care in the most affected districts of Lima.
The Dignity Award recognizes not only his medical career, but also his ethical and human commitment to the most neglected people in the system, honoring the spirit of Miguel Grau: to serve with integrity, empathy and courage.
