Access to health care remains a challenge for many communities in Peru. Factors such as geography, economics and lack of information make it difficult for thousands of people to receive proper diagnosis and treatment. Faced with these gaps, Socios En Salud (SES) works tirelessly to bring health closer to those who need it most.

For the past five years, SES has led initiatives that have changed lives. It has carried out more than 2 million screenings for the early detection of diseases and has connected more than 1 million people with comprehensive health programs. Thanks to effective management, he has mobilized $100 million to strengthen health systems and improve the quality of life for thousands.

In 2024, Socios En Salud has followed this path with remarkable results. It screened 356,034 people in various communities, 12,131 received a diagnosis and 11,212 were accompanied by a community health agent. Below is a tour of the programs that made a difference this year.

Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health: SAMIA鈥檚 impact

The Saludo Materno Infantil y Adolescente (SAMIA) program continued its expansion with the eighth edition of CASITA, a community-based early childhood intervention that benefited 150 families. To reduce dropout, sessions adapted to the home were implemented. In addition, a study conducted with the Harvard School of Public Health evidenced the impact of climate change on maternal and child health.

In Maras, Cusco, 80% of women reported anxiety about water scarcity. In Carabayllo, Lima, the community called for water conservation strategies. These findings have prompted proposals such as water and recycling cooperatives in Lima and reforestation in Cusco. SAMIA also inaugurated the first differentiated module for adolescents in Carabayllo and conducted 521 home visits.

Mental Health: community treatment and expansion of PENSA

The Mental Health (SAME) program demonstrated that community care is key to treatment adherence. Ninety-nine percent of the 1,226 people living with schizophrenia managed to adhere to their treatment with the support of community agents. 72,130 home visits were conducted to reinforce this model.

The approach also impacted maternal mental health. The Pensamiento Saludable (PENSA) strategy, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and implemented by Socios En Salud, was included in the Maternal Mental Health Program of the Ministry of Health (MINSA). In addition, with support from the Global Fund, 31,318 people affected by TB and HIV were screened for mental health problems in 13 regions of the country.

Tuberculosis: innovations in diagnosis and treatment

Thanks to the implementation of the endTB clinical study, MINSA adopted shortened nine-month oral treatments for people with resistant TB. In 2024, 112 patients in Lima and Callao had access to these innovative therapies. In addition, active TB case-finding was conducted for the first time in 18 indigenous communities in Loreto, using AI digital radiography.

During the year, 114,653 people were screened in different regions of the country, with support from the TB-HIV Country Project 2022 - 2025, financed by the Global Fund, and 432 TB patients achieved recovery with support from the program. This effort reinforces Socios En Salud鈥檚 commitment to TB elimination.

HIV and sexual health: comprehensive access to care

In 2024, Socios En Salud became the first organization to offer free hormone therapy to transgender women in Metropolitan Lima. Seven participants accessed this treatment at the SES Polyclinic, improving their quality of life.

In addition, the STI and HIV Module at the El Progreso Health Center, located in northern Lima, strengthened specialized care in the district of Carabayllo, offering HIV testing, antiretroviral therapy, PrEP and more. Nationally, under the Country Project TB - HIV 2022 - 2025, 180,690 HIV and STI screenings were performed and 9,820 people with HIV received treatment.

Cancer and non-communicable diseases: timely care and training

The community support model in breast cancer diagnosis allowed 600 women to access free mammograms. This system has been institutionalized by MINSA in the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (DIRIS) of North Lima.

In addition, 75 professionals were trained in eye health and 67 in the management of chronic diseases.

In total, 949 people were screened for non-communicable diseases and 72 women diagnosed with breast cancer received follow-up visits from community agents.

Social Protection: Integration and Autonomy

The Protection Program (PPS) supported people in vulnerable situations, guaranteeing access to subsidies and job training. Thirty people with severe disabilities obtained economic support from the CONTIGO program of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS). In addition, an employability component was implemented for transgender people and those living with schizophrenia.

All told, 624 social support services were provided and 122 people were enrolled in state programs. Economic autonomy is vital to improving the quality of life of beneficiaries.

The commitment of Socios En Salud in 2024 remains unwavering. With each initiative, it reaffirms its mission to bring health closer to those who need it most. Every early diagnosis, every successful treatment and every person accompanied is one more step towards a fairer and healthier future.
