Global Health Justice Week is an initiative inspired by the legacy of Dr. Paul Farmer, co-founder of Partners In Health, which seeks to highlight inequities in health care, mobilize support and promote sustainable solutions under the principle that health is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
Millions of people around the world still face barriers to accessing health services. Poverty, discrimination and lack of investment, among other social determinants, perpetuate these inequalities and keep the most vulnerable populations from receiving timely treatment with a comprehensive approach.
Thus, more than a campaign, Global Health Justice Week is a call to action. Its purpose is to raise awareness, drive public policy and unite communities, partners and activists in building fairer health systems.
Only with collective commitment can we ensure that no one is excluded from the right to a healthy life. As Paul Farmer said, “The idea that some lives matter less is at the root of all that is wrong with the world.” So this week is a reminder that health equity is not a utopia, but an achievable goal through joint effort.
